While most manufacturers offer small reels with tiny spools, Quantum has designed a reel with a large 35.5mm spool and a very compact frame to allow anglers to use very long line, to cast long distances and retrieve more line with each rotation of the crank. However, the size of the spool is of little importance if the brake is not of good quality. Quantum has therefore done a lot of research to develop the new ACS 4.0™ brake. Lighter, it minimizes the amount of energy required to spin the spool when casting and features additional brakes that deactivate when the speed reaches around 5,000 rpm to maximize distance.
